Meaning behind the art: Made dinner and felt the need to make something-heading up to the studio. I also wanted to see graphite pencil marks, lines, angles and a white background. So that was my choice of palette for the Tack Down piece today. There was something gratifying about use the pencil and scribbling with it. My emotional state felt intense and I just wanted to let go, surrender to the page, the surface in front of me. A chat around a table earlier in the day was brought up about the balancing our lives. Isn’t that what we are all trying to do? These days with our technology…which does make things easier in some ways but then offers up so many more choices that are spent sucking up our time trying to make. Another reminder in all this, is to just keep life as simple as possible.
Bio Laura Lein-Svencner was raised in Downers Grove IL not far from her grandfather’s farm and resides now Darien Illinois for the past 30 years. She’s continued with her personal studies in drawing, printmaking, sculpture, papermaking and collage. Seeking inspiration from one artist to another, Laura has pursued her love of paper; this steady pace of exploration has led her to become a member of many local and international collage groups. She also co-founded the Midwest Collage Society which exhibits throughout the Midwest region. Her works has won many awards and most recently the 27th Annual Juried Exhibit with the National Collage Society.
