Materials Used: 140lb. Watercolor paper, gloss medium, acrylics, gesso acrylic maps, gesso acrylic brown Kraft papers, painted newsprint, sanded and acrylic rub magazine paper, stamping with homemade stamps, resist stamping and acrylics, wax pastel crayons, sealed with a layer of UV satin varnished.
Meaning behind the art: I wanted to start with an acrylic background, but I decided at the last minute to do a gloss medium resist and then moved in to adding acrylic color. I had a newspaper I used as a muck up sheet under other collage papers I was altering it worked out so well as a collage papers I brought it in to the Houses. Making the larger House out of sanded magazine paper. The foreground is gesso and acrylic paint on a map surface which is layered and shadowed with other drawing mediums to embellish the surface. This piece will be matted, and black frame.
Bio Laura Lein-Svencner was raised in Downers Grove IL not far from her grandfathers farm and resides now Darien Illinois for the past 30 years. Shes continued with her personal studies in drawing, printmaking, sculpture, papermaking and collage. Seeking inspiration from one artist to another, Laura has pursued her love of paper; this steady pace of exploration has led her to become a member of many local and international collage groups. She also co-founded the Midwest Collage Society which exhibits throughout the Midwest region. Her works has won many awards and most recently the 27th Annual Juried Exhibit with the National Collage Society.
